What is twitter?

You may have heard or read about it?
Twitter is described as;
A social networking and micro blogging service that allows you answer the question, "What are you doing?" By sending short text messages 140 characters in length, called "tweets", to your friends, or "followers."
The short format of the tweet is a defining characteristic of the service. it allows informal collaboration and quick information sharing that provides relief from rising email and messaging fatigue.

OK.

So I went to twitter signed up and was presented with my very own twitter page.
This allowed me to follow events and peoples tweets (messages).
Within a few minutes I had a follower or someone who had signed up to read whatever it is I have to say. (This was odd because at that point I hadn't written anything). I waited, and a little later and I had another follower and a button that allows me to follow them.

Why?

Everyone makes their own decisions about whom to follow. When someone you don’t know follows you, you have a choice to make. Do you want to follow back or not? Some people always follow back. Some people selectively follow back. Neither policy is right or wrong. It all depends on what you want out of twitter.
#Tip: Decide on your follow policy when starting out. Be prepared to change this as you gain Twitter experience when your Twitter following grows.

What to tweet.

Here are some tweets you see a lot.
#General observations on life. #Interesting things to read. #New blog posts. #A mad view on your life and the world. #.Inspiring thoughts. #Professional news. #Daily life details. #Business #Family.
There are three types of tweets.

General tweets. A public tweet sent to everyone who follows you. Just write your message and click update.
@ Reply. These are public tweets sent to a specific person on twitter.
Direct message. A private tweet sent to a person who follows you.

Lets tweet?

Take some time to think what you want to tweet about. Read what other people tweet while you work out what you want to say.

Here are some suggestions for tweet ideas:

What you are doing (but don’t be too boring).

Your current scheme.
What you are reading with details so others can read it.
Announce a new blog post, promotion, charty etc.
Share a humorous look at a life situation.
Ask a question, you never know what the answer might be.
